Super Bowl Commercials through the Years

Hey y'all.

In honor of the athletic holiday known as Super Bowl Sunday, I figured I would share some commercials I've located from throughout the decades/years.

Many say that Super Bowl commercials are some of the most iconic advertisements of the year, and I know of a handful of people who watch the sports-tacular spectacle purely for that reason.  While modern commercials are, by far and away, much more technical, edgy, and oftentimes overtly sexual and racy, Super Bowl commercials leave a legacy of epic proportions.  In no particular order, and for no particular reason, here are ten commercials from Super Bowls past.  Feast, fellow football fanatics.  (Nice alliteration, Corri!  Thanks, Internet!  Glad you noticed,)

#1 - 1969 Gillette Razor, Super Bowl III
This commercial is certainly a throwback to older times, and the voice shifting in tandem with the beard size is auditorially effective, and hella-creepy.

#2 - 1976 Xerox, Super Bowl X
This one makes me laugh because of the monks.  I oft mention the grueling process monks and early musicians had to endure before the printing press existed, and this is just a comical reminder of it.

#3 - 1980 Coke-a-Cola, Super Bowl XIV
I'm not sure why, but this one scares me a bit.  It almost seems like the kid is baiting Joe with the Coke, only wishing him to drink it for malicious reasons.  Clearly, that's not the case, but part of me is just waiting for a three-headed demon to erupt out of the boy's innocent body and laugh maniacally as Joe gets poisoned.  I'm probably the only one that gets that vibe, though.

#4 - 1987 Diet Pepsi, Super Bowl XXI
80's synthesizers?  Yes, please!  This one is just so stereotypically awesome.

#5 - 1995 Budweiser, Super Bowl XXIX
I included this one because this was a fairly iconic commercial when it aired.  I must've watched it three or four times before I decided to add it to the (pretty pointless and random) list, but despite the fact that I don't find it particularly funny or witty, here 'tis.

#6 - 1998 FedEx, Super Bowl XXXII
This one has been dubbed one of the best Super Bowl ads of all time, and I can see why.  Very clever, FedEx, very clever...

#7 - 2006 Dove, Super Bowl XL
It's oftentimes difficult to find ads, especially during the Super Bowl, that aren't trying to be racy, funny, or just memorable for weird reasons.  This one is refreshing, as it actually addresses some concerns for younger female generations.   Kudos, Dove!

#8 - 2009 Hulu, Super Bowl XLIII
I just find this one absolutely hysterical.  The acting, the background music, the whole idea of the story and especially the mockery of the human race just make it one of my favorites.

#9 - 2010 Google, Super Bowl XLIV
I don't think I'd ever seen this one before, but it stands out because of how unique it is.  It is very sweet, and tugs at the heart strings.  Nicely done, Google.

#10 - 2014 Jaguar, Super Bowl XLVIII
Another commercial that successfully pokes fun at a group of people, albeit on a ridiculously high budget with a very esteemed director.  I'm a sucker for a British accent, so I am biased.

So what do we think are going to be some of the most memorable ads for 2015?  If I had to wage a guess, it's the one that's viral on Facebook making everyone sob…

Why you do that, Budweiser?  Just leave my tear ducts alone!

Anyway, have a happy, cheerful, and safe Super Bowl Sunday, and let me know what some of your favorite commercials were!
